Maintenance Methods For Shock Absorbers

Shock absorbers are vulnerable accessories during the use of automobiles. The quality of their operation directly affects the smoothness of car driving and the lifespan of other components. Therefore, we should ensure that shock absorbers are often in good working condition. The following methods can be used to check whether the shock absorber is working properly.

1. After driving the car for 10km on poor road conditions, stop and touch the shock absorber shell with your hand. If it is not hot enough, it indicates that there is no resistance inside the shock absorber and the shock absorber is not working. At this point, appropriate lubricating oil can be added before conducting the test. If the shell heats up, it indicates a lack of oil inside the shock absorber, and sufficient oil should be added. Otherwise, it indicates that the shock absorber is ineffective.

2. Press the bumper firmly and release it. If the car jumps 2-3 times, it indicates that the shock absorber is working well.

3. When the car is running slowly and emergency braking occurs, if the vibration of the car is severe, it indicates that there is a problem with the shock absorber.

4. Remove the shock absorber and make it stand upright, clamp the lower connecting ring onto the vise, and forcefully pull and press the shock absorber rod several times. At this time, there should be stable resistance, and the resistance to pull up should be greater than the resistance to press down. If the resistance is unstable or no resistance, it may be due to a lack of oil inside the shock absorber or damage to valve parts, and repair or replace the parts.
